I really don't think it is necessary to call me or any member of my family "pathetic." There's nothing wrong with manipulating the system to your advantage, if you do it for a valid purpose (such as teaching a crappy driver a lesson).
-Don
It's definitely unethical, but maybe someday someone will do it for a valid purpose and teach you a lesson.

Sounds like you'd be interested in a nice Windows7 machine. Enjoy.
Seriously I am an apple fangirl, but this response embarrassed me. If in the future apple start offering 24 and 30 inch models, will you take back this statement.

Surely they wouldn't have a whole invite just for an MBP update either? Although this board seems obsessed with Merom MBP's, replacing a chip in a laptop really isn't that exciting.
I'm hoping for a completely new product range of some sort.
OH NO, don't say that. Now we'll be inundated with 600 posts of "I want a mid tower Mac, headless, for $1200.00"

What are the odds on a 30" display? I'm thinking it's not likely but would buy one if they built it. Probably unlikely since they did away with the 30" monitors already.

Balls! I just bought a new 27in iMac like 3-4 weeks ago! Oh well, I have been wanting replace my PC with a mac for like over a year, and I love it.
Me to hehe but to be honest with you when i see how much problems MBP have i am glad that i did bought 2010 gen.
Newbie question - please don't flame me.
How big of a transition is this, as compared - for example - to the Intel chip back around 2006? What I mean is, after the transition to Intel, certain software and eventually the newest operating system itself could no longer be run on the old chip. So, is this transition as significant as that, or is this more of a speed boost kind of thing?
Thanks.
I think it will cover same part like MBP did...so new TB connection, SB CPU, and maybe biger standard HDD's
I want to know where to get a list of products that hook onto Thunderbolt.
Rocketman
You should check Computex exibition show in Taiwan in June there you will see ******** of product prepared for TB
I don't know if they can make the iMacs look better, IMO. They look really nice. hardware improvements would be the best way to keep these machines alive. unless ofcourse they pull of something amazing like they always do lol.
To each their own, but in all reality, these are the best looking "all-in-ones" that i have ever seen.
Need to agree with you on this one
Don't forget the possibility of better graphics and SSD as standard, now thats gotta be worth a grin :)
Better graphic posible but SSD as standard no chance...Maybe lower price on SSD but it will be still optional..

Personally I'm a huge fan of daisy chaining. Less devices, less cables, less clutter. You just attach each device to the next.
What is it you have an aversion to?
That's what I was thinking, I thought the whole point of Thunderbolt was that it had so much throughput you could daisy chain as much stuff as you wanted without a drop in performance.
The question is, was the second thunderbolt port necessary to drive two external displays, or could you daisy chain them ad infinitum like Steve Jobs thinks you should do?

Unless you were actually commenting on the "pre-announcement" itself and not the codename
Yes, it was the "pre-announcement" that I find very un-Apple. The fact that the product doesn't have a solid name just adds to the strangeness. Is there a precedent for this at Apple announcements. Sure, I've heard of products that I couldn't go out and get today or even for 4 weeks, but Q1 2007?
This seems to me the "plan b" that had to get announced because the real "one more thing", out of left field announcement, hit a snag.
Maybe it wasn't the iPhone, but something didn't go exactly a planned on the 12th.
Anyone hear how they liked the satcast of the keynote in London?

Good luck with reporting my plates. I've done that to drunk drivers before, the 911 operator has told me "We're sorry sir, we cannot divert officers based on heresy." Also, see above: My uncle is the traffic court judge in the jurisdiction where I did this, good luck getting a ticket to stand.

Since there are no formal announcements schedule. Apple will just bring down the store, and the new products will appear.
They've recently done this when they announced the Mac Book, and the updated iMac Core 2 Duo's...
Apple always keeps us on the edge, because we just don't know how they will announce their new products...

In the wake of today's release of new iMacs (http://www.macrumors.com/2011/05/03/apple-releases-new-sandy-bridge-quad-core-imacs-with-thunderbolt/), a number of tidbits about the new models have been surfacing.

Did anyone notice that it has an IPS display?

There's no point in having a hard drive, why would you even want it if you can stream in real time from your computer? And why make it a "mini" size box when it can just be something tiny enough to hold AV outputs?
In order to receive the movie from the movie store it would stream to the "box".Having a HD would allow you to save the movie.
AND!!
Later in your room you could stream it from the "Box" to your computer :-)

I still don't understand why nobody has managed to make a viable alternative to Microsoft Office, esp. Microsoft Excel. Apple's iWork is fine, but clearly not enough and of course there is no Windows version. Google is too obsessed with the cloud and ad thing and didn't make Google Docs a local app for Windows / Mac / Smartphones with Dropbox like cloud capabilities. :(
So Microsoft can continue to be fed with its Windows / Office monopolies for the foreseeable future.
I have clients that I have saved thousands of dollars by ridding their office of MS Office and replaced with OpenOffice and NeoOffice. And because some of my clients run Linux and OSX, they have also saved even more by not needing Anti Virus software for each of their computers.
I also have clients that still wish to remain on Windows. I don't mind because that is easy money as I can always count on Windows to screw up and give me more billable time. ;)

My Xeon utilization is only 50% per proc while compressing in Quicktime Pro. Even during an HD export (http://www.macpro.ws/P3.jpg) the fans don't get use.I am compressing EyeTV Broadcast HD recordings with Toast then Handbrake. On the G5 Quad they each use more than two cores occasionally and almost two cores all the time - well over 80% each all the time.
I can crush two files simultaneously to gain even more performance - like 150% faster that way.

Looks neat however if it doesn't have a good calendar and sync w/ iCal it will be useless for me.
I would love to get rid of this Treo I got, but I can't stand putting in any kind of text (calendar appointment, text message, or according to rumors an iChat conversation) with a scroll wheel or a basic numberpad w/ 3-4 letters crammed on each key. Knowing apple though, I will be surprised if they release anything with a full keyboard like the Treo and Blackberrys have.
Still interested to see this thing see the light of day, even though I doubt I will be getting one.

Are we going to have live MR Coverage of the event? :)
It would be pretty awesome if they streamed it live to anyone with iTunes as either an audio or video cast.

He was talking about the fact that "Cloud storage" uses physical media. ;) The cloud is not some kind of magic thing, it's just a bunch of physical disks and servers. And those disks and servers aren't anything special either, they are your typical server computer and the disks are also your standard server based disk, grouped up in a volume manager over massive raid arrays.
Oh right, didn't think that part through.... Its the future everthing is magic! :D

But then again, these people would rather force everyone to pony up the dough rather than take a hit to their lifestyles.
To borrow a phrase, if you (they) don't like it, leave.
As someone pointed out in another thread, about half of colonial Americans sided with the British. After the revolution, they didn't get to split America into those who remained loyal to the British crown and those who did not. A society moves as a whole, obeys laws as a whole, or it is not a society at all.
