That's cool, I was told I was delusional when I said that Meroms would ship in mid-2006 and the eMac would be replaced by an iMac with GMA950 too. :D

Me too, when I said iMac would never get a Conroe chip. :D

Seems like this would actually discourage drunk driving knowing you'll encounter a check point on your way home.

THIS Related to this, when I'm aware that the police in my area are operating under a "no-refusal" policy, I am much, much more careful and tend not to drive if I've had anything to drink, let alone close to the legal limit.

Drunk driving is awful ass-hattery, but to restrict public information ranks up there too.

obviously they will "respond strongly"....that's what people with expensive lawyers do... doesn't mean that Apple doesn't have the stronger case. Most people sue Apple (sometimes rightfully so), but in this case, it is undeniable that Samsung has hijacked Apple's intellectual property, MOST NOTABLY I THINK with the UI skin on their Android phones... Takes a triple take to realize that it's not stock iOS.

So the Beatles didn't use an Apple? And Woolworths Australia does? Don't be so biased.

I never said Apple going after Woolworths for their logo was a good move.

It doesn't need to be a virus. They're relatively rare issues these days even on Windows. Malware is about stealing identities (big money) not hackers playing games with machines (kiddy stuff). It's far more likely to target the iPad or iPhone than anything else, but saying it cannot happen is like telling Japan two years ago that their plants would be in meltdown after an earthquake some day. They would have laughed in your face. After all, it didn't happen in the past 40 years there. That obviously proves it could NEVER happen. :p

In any case, it's clear to me there are some really delusional people on these forums. Instead engaging in an utterly pointless argument with a bunch of stubborn fanboys that couldn't be convinced USB3 was a good thing unless Steve personally e-mailed them, I'll just leave you to your false sense of security and just smirk the day you find your identity stolen, especially those that feel the need to insult other people (2 cents comments, etc.) based on their own ignorance.

Personally I'm a huge fan of daisy chaining. Less devices, less cables, less clutter. You just attach each device to the next.

What is it you have an aversion to?

That's what I was thinking, I thought the whole point of Thunderbolt was that it had so much throughput you could daisy chain as much stuff as you wanted without a drop in performance.

The question is, was the second thunderbolt port necessary to drive two external displays, or could you daisy chain them ad infinitum like Steve Jobs thinks you should do?

Note that if I'm right (trust me!), then there's a gap.... no Apple box with a Conroe? I don't think so.... Apple will introduce a new system with support for a single Conroe. Hopefully it won't be the MacPro with a different mobo, but a completely new box (fingers crossed).
Perhaps some kind of high performance consumer-oriented/gaming-oriented tower?

    (Just pure speculation...)

Hopefully DWI checkpoints yield such low benefits from these apps that they become extinct although I doubt it. Hassling thousands of honest, sober citizens to catch the 1-2% legally intoxicated drivers isn't worth the price we all pay. I question our freedom in America each time I drive up to a checkpoint. If you're wondering, no I've never received a DWI nor driven intoxicated and I still hate these checkpoints. They don't make me feel safer on the road.

Lobbying money from MADD and SADD pretty much ensures that random OVI checkpoints will never go away.

There's no political capital in being perceived as "not tough enough" on drunk drivers.

OH NO, don't say that. Now we'll be inundated with 600 posts of "I want a mid tower Mac, headless, for $1200.00"

Whoops. Although I'd love to see a mid-tower Mac, I don't think it'll happen. Ever.

Perhaps we'll see a genuine Photoshop competitor? A proper editing suite of some sort (either that, or real editing functions integrated into Aperture)?

OK, now I'm just clutching at straws :o .

Now they just need to work on a little region of the world called... oh... everywhere outside the United States.

I do happen to have an account on the US iTunes store, and I availed myself last night of the free download of "Lost". While it wasn't a movie, it was still almost a gig (1.5 hours of video I suppose) and probably similar in size and quality to a movie.

On my DSL connection, it took about 7 hours. I let it go overnight.

Not quite the 30 minutes that Steve promised. :P

I am, however, starting to see why they allowed a sneak preview of iTV. Look how many of us are saying "I can't wait for iTV!" now that we've had some time to experiment with iTunes movie downloads!

What? There's something screwed with your Mail.app.

Think about it. If Mail.app used 100% of a core ALL THE TIME, people with single CPU machines wouldn't be able to do anything.

Mail on my G5 iMac is sat there at 0.0% CPU utilisation when it's not doing anything.I have a large library of mail and smart mailboxes that refresh every time it checks for new mail. If I have it set to every 5 minutes, it takes 3 or 4 minutes to refresh all my smart mailboxes. :)

This is the downside of "Open Source". I have both Android & iP4. I have to watch what I install on my Android but not with my iP4 (The plus side to "Closed Walled Garden".

It has nothing to do with open source. Most of Mac OS X and iOS is open source (http://developer.apple.com/opensource/index.html). Open source projects tend to have much better security records than closed source projects.

The issue is that the Android Market is an open market. Google does not audit the items prior to their inclusion in the Android Market. If Google curated the Android Market, it would be just as secure as the iOS app store.

    Merom MBPs of course :D

    I second this emoticon!

If anyone at Apple HQs is listening, please give us a revved up/priced down MBP. Merom + 160 GB/7200 rpm hdd at $1999 would be sweet. I don't care to watch movies on anything less than a 50" screen, and I sure as hell am not moved to tears by an 8GB nano that is priced at 75% of a regular iPod. C'mon Apple, it's not too late!

I can't wait to get my hands on an iPhone- I'm getting tired of my SLVR. As soon as the iPhone launches I'm throwing my SLVR in to a river. This is starting to become tradition, there must be a half dozen old cell phones of mine which have been cast in to the briny deep. What a liberating experience.

Dude! The Sierra Club would appreciate if you donated the phones to them instead! :D

It's Showtime. Obvious reference to movies. What do (consumers) want? What does apple like to sell? HARDWARE. Steve will introduce some sort of on-line movie service. I have no idea what it will be, other than different from other options. To me, the on-line movie store is not a bit sexy.

What will be sexy are the other three devices he will introduce that will use that service...

    1) True Video iPod. With some sort of wireless transfer method. There is no point in on-line service (for apple) if it ain't mobile.

    2) The Apple Movie Machine, probably looking a lot like a Mini, to interface wirelessly to your computer with your TV seamlessly, using an improved Front Row. It will have DVR capability and ability to work with streamed high quality video from iTunes movie store.

    3) 23" iMac with a TV tuner, and the ability to pickup streamed movies from the ITunes movie store, and built-in DVR capacity upon which to view those nice movies.

being the CCW permit holder that I am... I sure hope this guys did more than break some glass; security guard is going to feel a lot of pain for this one... doesnt matter if that guy was running with the whole damn store being pulled behind him, can't shoot at all for this one. I really hope there is more to this story.

Bought monitors with anti-glare coatings. And monitor hoods.

My first computer was a PowerBook G3 and after that it was an LCD iMac (not the Luxo). Never had to ever use a CRT other than school and even then it sucked big time. I feel privileged. With the release of all this gloss glass monitors from :apple:, I am saving a boat load of money by simply not upgrading to the crap offerings and just use a Dell monitor and update to a Mac Mini or MacPro when the time presents itself to upgrade.

Thank you :apple: for not offering any Anti-Glare across the entire hardware lineup. :p

I wouldn't go so far as to kill someone. If I killed them, how could they learn a lesson?

    -Don

you have no idea of the speed and the damage that can be done.
A smash move like that can cause a car to spin and then start rolling and can cause major injury to even death.
Good luck tracking my actual identity down. And also good luck getting anything you dug up admitted in court, because there is absolutely nothing legal about introducing any evidence of my identity you found by tying this account back to my IP/ISP without a warrant.

    -Don

hmm you think that is so hard....
Your ethics are beyond pathetic. You are showing that you care about no one but yourself.
You clearly are showing that your limit is legal but even then you clearly only follow the laws you like. Legally and ethical are not the same thing.

You need to work on your ethics. I hope and pray you never get into any position requires ethicical decision. That means you should never be a manager, an engineer, lawyer or a doctor as you clearly do not have ethics. Mind you most lawyers have no ethics which might explain the problem with out legally system.

why are they mad about getting kicked out.

Why would they be mad about this? The disruption was clearly intentional - they did have a contract telling them what would be allowed - so that they could get themselves into the news.

Glad all the consumers machines get this first. All the kinks can be worked out before the MacPro gets it at the end of the year.

LaCie have started making drives etc with Cripplepeak connectivity. There are a few others.

I was credit card in hand when these were released, but I stopped myself. I'd like to wait a bit and see the 64 bit boost (if there is any), and Leopard in general.

I feel like these are speed demons, but I can't take advantage of a lot of it due to my heavy use of CS2 and the in-between feeling of Apple's apps/OS right now.

The second Leopard is out, I'm on the 24" iMac train.
